The Lynn Water and Sewer Commission is proud to announce it is the recipient of the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) Drinking Water Award for its outstanding performance in 2009.
Executive Director Daniel F. O’Neill stated “the Commission provides Lynn residents with safe, clean drinking water. This award by the MassDEP recognizes the exceptional quality of Lynn’s drinking water. The Commission was one of only twelve communities statewide in the Medium and Large Community category to win this award.”
Lynn is blessed with an extensive independent water supply, including watershed lands stretching as far as the Ipswich River. The local water supply in Lynn consists of a series of interconnected reservoirs-Hawkes Pond, Walden Pond, Birch Pond, and Breeds Pond-supplied primarily by withdrawals from the Saugus and Ipswich Rivers.
Superintendent of Water Supply and Treatment Richard Dawe stated “that the Commission is in compliance with all state drinking water standards and is recognized for having excellent sources of protection standards. It is an honor for the Commission and the employees at the Raymond F. Reardon Memorial Water Treatment Plant to receive this award.”
Of the 1,032 water systems in the state, less than 2 percent receive awards from the Mass DEP. Lynn Water and Sewer Commission has received eight awards for the exceptional quality of its drinking water since 1997. Lynn residents can be proud that their drinking water is one of the best in Massachusetts.
